There are two basics types of players: the casual players that usually grab a game when they are on a short break, or when they just don't feel like doing much thinking, and the avid gamers that actually get involved in a game's story.  Games that usually have a well-developed story or intense mechanics usually are what the latter prefer, and that is precisely the category in which Space Gladiators - Escaping Tartarus falls.

The first mistake you'd make when first opening the game is judging it by the graphics, but be warned that you shouldn't be fooled by them. This rogue-like platformer is as difficult as it may look cute, so try to keep an open mind, especially when facing opponents that look harmless, such as the flies you may see in various levels. You have a limited amount of lives and there aren't many ways you can get any more once those are gone, so careful tactics are valued over mindless combat more than anything.

You are a warrior that has been captured and sent on an alien planet to entertain the locals in gladiatorial combat, which takes place on a planet called Tartarus.  Replaying the game in order to get better at it is only a valid option if you can remember the tactics themselves and not the maps, since these are proceduraly generated, so never count on using an environment you remember to your advantage. When you do finally reach the arena, you can choose the opponents you get to fight, and loot their items and coins, which will help you get more and more powerful.

The fluid combat controls, procedurally-generated content, various opponents and the steep learning curve all make Space Gladiators - Escaping Tartarus a game that will keep you on the edge of your seat for as long as your gladiator survives
