Blue Revolver
Mash your keyboard playing this fast paced sidescrolling shooter that rocks a very pleasant retro look #Sidescrolling shooter #Top down shooter #Arcade shooter #Shooter #Top-down #Sidescroller
Top-down arcade shooters will never lose popularity because they will always be those types of games that truly test your skills until your fingers start to hurt. It’s the same with Blue Revolver, a retro looking sci-fi shooter that’s just waiting to find out if you make it past the first stage.
A lot of games t(r)end to come up with the goal of being a retro game. While some provide the gameplay to earn that association, most of them lose points when it comes to looks. Fortunately, the people responsible for Blue Revolver have managed to pull it off with flying (vintage) colors.
Blue Revolver looks great (if you’re into this kind of stuff) but some might find the low rez approach a bit of a deal breaker. As far as arcade games go, this one feels right from the get go. Controls are smooth and super responsive, there is an abundance of enemies to obliterate and the audio really couldn’t be better.
In Blue Revolver the plot is simple, somewhat trivial but then again, this genre is more about the shooting and getting the highest score than it is about romance, drama and plot twists. You’re Mae, a recognized genius who pilots her ship to fend off the Blue Revolver forces who are looking to forcibly ‘borrow’ her creations.
You’ll be facing layers upon layers of enemies that vary in toughness, size and of course, firepower. Your ship is well equipped with some of your best inventions and you’ll see that as soon as you open fire. There are multiple attack types to use and each one will fit perfectly with certain situations.
When it comes to how tough Blue Revolver is, you should already know that that depends on how skilled you are. It is pretty tough though. Totally playable and fair, but sufficiently tough to really test you.
To wrap it up, Blue Revolver is a really good top down arcade game. Seriously, that vintage color palette is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time and it really does make a huge difference and so do many other details that have went in the game. Hopefully, you’ll spot and enjoy them all.
