Barony

If you’re into first person RPGs with a good dose of dungeon crawling features, then take a seat because Barony is coming up. It’s a game that uses simple graphics to its advantage, Minecraft fans will understand, providing an interesting and challenging quest for you.

In Barony you have no elaborate storyline to immerse yourself into. You start the game at the entrance of a dark dungeon where an evil lich named Baron Herx lurks. Your task, regardless of the hero you choose is to find the lich and using your set of skills, destroy him and his minions.

You get to choose from a rather large number of classes such as barbarian, warrior, healer, wanderer, merchant, wizard, joker and others, each one with their unique set of skills and potential. As you fight the trolls, rats and everything else that stalks you in the maze, you get experience and level up, you can equip the items of the foes you slay and much more.

A really nice feature in Barony is that each time you enter the dungeon, it’s different. Every time the game is started you get an entirely different layout for the maze and it’s always populated in a different way with enemy forces.

In some cases minions are right in front of the entrance into the dungeon while in others they are scattered all around the maze or grouped into one room. Regardless of their location, you still have to find and fight them to gain experience, gold and new items because it does make a huge difference whether your hero is well equipped or not.

In Barony you’ll do a lot of dying. It’s never pleasant in an RPG, especially when you manage to defeat three trolls, you’re left with two hitpoints and along comes a rat to finish you off. That’s why a multiplayer feature was implemented into Barony. Not only does it make things a lot easier, it also creates a more enjoyable experience alongside your friends.

Since there are plenty classes to choose from, you can create a well balanced party of heroes and see how far you can go. Be careful though, you get one life so mind your back and that of your fellow explorers.

Barony might not look like much at a first glance but there’s a lot more to it. Your character can get drunk if he drinks the wrong potion, you move slower if you carry too much loot and so on. You have to try it to see what it’s all about.
