  • So you know how we announced a week or two ago that we were no longer going to be releasing free updates of Barony? Well, we lied.
  • As of today, we have released a new version of the game that is absolutely full of bugfixes and stability improvements, plus our brand spanking new netcode.
  • added gameover window
  • gigantic improvement to netcode (90% reduction in net traffic!)
  • multiplayer lobby now reports UDP ports the clients are listening on
  • fixed identify and appraise dialogues not showing some unidentified items
  • fixed player stats not being visible when dead
  • fixed settings not being visible ingame
  • fixed clients not being able to cast spells
  • fixed some lights not disappearing on clients
  • campfires spawn more flame particles
  • fixed players respawning with amulet of strangulation still on
  • minotaur now slows down while breaking through obstacles
  • fixed occasional crash when descending ladders
  • different melee weapons now confer slightly different attack bonuses
  • changed attribute bonuses received by sex
  • fresh food will no longer sometimes cause vomiting
  • goblins made tougher
  • lever now makes sound when pulled
  • fewer sparks with lower velocity are created when casting spells
  • added a few additional loading messages
  • fixed chunky animation and floating heads on clients
  • fixed humans not following players with no leadership skill
  • fixed occasional crash at game exit
  • fixed editor closing when map fails to open
  • fixed ordering of certain gui elements
  • fixed helper npcs being reluctant to get out of the way
  • culled the intro text somewhat
  • fixed pause game bug in multiplayer
  • fixed disconnect message sometimes not going out on game exit

  • As you can see, there are not many (if any) big new features in this release of the game. This is partly because we've been concentrating on redoing the netcode and fixing all the bugs in the last version, but it's also because we're deliberating saving any big new features for our eventual commercial release (whenever that's happening). You can continue seeing new stuff as we post it on our devlog here, but you won't be able to try it for yourself until we go commercial.. so stay tuned for that.
  • Seeing as this release is also pretty stable (by our estimates) it's also likely that we won't be releasing another update anytime soon. So I guess you can say that this will be our last free release before we go commercial in a while.
