Lumiette

Nothing beats a good old arcade game when it comes to achieving a good fun-to-complexity ratio. All you need is to strap on a different theme or a bit of a visual twist and pretty much any arcade shoot em'up game is fair game. This is precisely the principle that Lumiette follows, as it allows you to destroy massive numbers of foes with your powerful attacks, all while under the premise of going deeper into the dream world to achieve your goals.

Lumiette is a single player bullet hell-style arcade shoot em' up (shmup) themed around achieving one's dreams through resolve. You test your resolve by surviving the endless waves of pixie-like creatures that fill the screen and attack you from all directions, and it is up to you to wipe as many of them out before you die (aka wake up).

The reason why Lumiette is considered a "Hell-Style" game is because most of the times you have no idea what's going on, and you pretty much use the "spray-and-pray" tactic and hope your attacks touches the enemy before their attacks touch you. This goes double if you let the enemies fill in the screen, as it becomes near impossible to tell apart a loot drop from an enemy or a projectile, and you mind end up going face-first towards death. The High Scores page lets you keep track of the progress, as well as compete to see who can go deeper into the dream world (the game is not online).

Lumiette has interesting 8bit graphics that may turn some of you away, but you spare just a few minutes of your time trying it, you might end up playing for the high score ASAP.
