Jack McLantern

Mindless mayhem is usually the main theme in some games, and despite not wanting to admit it at first, a lot of players enjoy it, as sometimes you just want to destroy something without having to pay for actual property damage. One game that has this theme is Jack McLantern, an action-adventure game where you play as a cursed soul on a quest to collect as many souls as possible so you can exchange them for your own.

The highest grade this game might get is in the graphics department, since it looks great, it is spooky and Halloween-ish, but without being realistic to the point that it could frighten anyone. In fact, some character designs are actually made to be comical, that is until you realize you can die from three or four of their hits.

Even if he is extremely squishy, Jack has his trusty axe and a flintlock pistol to help him deal with his foes. Thankfully, the pistol doesn't have an ammo system, and the axe can even be used to perform a boomerang-like ranged attack. More so, Jack is more nimble and hits faster than most enemies, so hit-and-run tactics are extremely effective. In fact, those of you with nimble fingers can dispatch enemies solely through ranges attacks if you can dodge their abilities well enough. One drawback of the game is that the camera is a bit too dynamic at times, and that there is no map, so you'll spend about half of your time walking aimlessly just to find the next point of interest.

If you love Halloween, spooky games and enemies designed in a way that makes them hard to be taken seriously, then Jack McLantern is indeed a title worth trying.
