Win card battles by utilizing a clever strategy in this simple, yet effective collectible card game #Card game #Strategy game #Multiplayer ccg #Card #Strategy #Ccg
You can easily conclude that people are head over heels with trading card games lately by checking the latest releases on popular platforms, or maybe it’s just that so many developers decide to take a stab at the genre for some reason. Whatever the truth might be, you can hardly turn a corner without bumping into a CCG on the Internet, so it’s getting harder and harder for game developers to come up with new ideas.
Wagers of War presents a somewhat new spin on the subject by introducing the concept of “war rounds”, while the rest of the game revolves around playing regular cards in order to gather mana. In essence, every player plays a card, and the one with the highest number wins mana. Obviously, this might trigger your RNG PTSD - and with good reason -, but there are some good parts to consider as well.
To begin with, you can also use special cards that provide you with special abilities, so you can sort of turn your luck around if you find a good strategy. On the other hand, the special cards are also drawn using an RNG system, which kind of defeats the purpose. Your special cards must level up along the way as well, but you could face off against opponents with better cards right from your first match.
As mentioned before, the amount of mana you have once the war round begins depends on how well you have done before them. Hence, if RNG is not on your side, you can end up with fewer options than your opponent, with no fault of your own. Granted, the difference is never that great, but that only proves that the system is rigged for the two players to be evenly matched. Naturally, this means that the whole ordeal is kind of pointless from the start.
The mana difference might not mean much if you are confronted with a player of similar level, but if you happen to battle someone who spent money on cards, the difference is that much more frustrating. Sometimes no amount of reasoning can get you out of a bad situation, so the whole “strategy” concept flies out the window if luck is not on your side.
Wagers of War loses its appeal the moment you realize how much you have to lose to the RNG system, not to mention the fact that you are forced to go through meaningless rounds before you can actually fight. Hence, it’s only worth your time if you are very patient and you do not mind losing matches in spite of your best efforts.
