Being a pirate is not really a job anymore, although it was never a proper career anyway. However, the field was much more profitable back in the day, especially before modern technology made it very difficult to stay hidden on the sea. People also transported many valuables over the ocean, mainly because there was no other way to do so.
Son Korsan is a top-down strategy game in which you get to be a pirate and do everything in your power to conquer the seas and gather as much treasure as you can. By doing so you unlock better equipment for your ship, as well as gather enough resources to build a proper fleet. The game features a strong multiplayer component as well, so you can challenge other players to a duel.
You start with a single ship and basic equipment at first, which should be enough to start your pirate life. The main goal is to explore the seas and look for vulnerable ships in order to destroy them and get to the cargo. You can also find floating chests full of treasure, so you do not have to fight tooth and nail for every bit of gold. Naturally, the combat is much more fun than the randomness of floating chests.
Every fight you win contributes to your overall experience level, and this in turn unlocks new upgrades for your ships. Whether it’s more powerful ammunition, extra speed or protection, every bit helps when it comes to dealing with rival pirates. Unfortunately, the combat is way too simple and boring, given the fact that all you have to do is click on the ships and wait for them to be destroyed. There’s little to no strategy involved, which kind of defeats the purpose.
The game might also feature a few bugs, some of which make it unplayable every now and again. You can usually get over them with a game restart, but the experience might not be worth the effort. The in-app purchases contribute to the overall stress level as well, since you are always feeling like you are losing out if you decide not to spend any money on the game.
Son Korsan is not a terrible game, but it’s clearly a bit rushed, especially since it’s a mobile port with a clunky interface. Some of the ideas are nice, but the execution leaves to be desired, not to mention the tasteless combat system that requires no thought at all.
