Playing cards is a common activity for most people, and it’s the kind of thing friends do when they get together. However, you can have just as much fun in a virtual environment, especially since there are hundreds of titles available at the moment, each one of which might be the right one for you. Ranging from incredibly simple to annoyingly complex, there’s certainly no unexplored niche at the moment.
Palace of Cards is a card game with a multiplayer component, which means that you do not have to play on your own for a change. Granted, some of the modes are not really suited for multiplayer, such as Solitaire, but there are other, more competitive modes to choose from. In short, you can choose from Rummy, Mau-Mau, Skat and Sheepshead, each one of which features a different set of rules.
The Solitaire rounds are pretty weird in multiplayer, given the fact that you do not really interact with the other players. Instead, each player receives the same card setup, and the one who finishes in the most efficient way is declared the winner. Granted, you should be aware of the fact that it takes quite a while to finish a Solitaire round, so that may be an issue.
In case you want to create your customized game lobby, it’s very easy to do so, especially since you have a lot of control over the rules of the game. Hence, everything from the number of rounds, to the entry fee and the jackpot can be adjusted, which is great news for those of you with a lot of experience. It’s also a great way to choose exactly who is able to join your lobby, in case you are looking for serious competition.
The interface is as simple as it can get, too, since everything is one click away at all times. There are no annoying menus to slow you down, and most functions are clearly visible and explained at the beginning. The actual graphics are not particularly impressive, given the fact there’s nothing to see other than some cards and a few bland backdrops, but at least the colors are well-chosen and not too tiresome on the eyes.
Palace of Cards achieves its purpose, namely to provide card game lovers with a platform to share their passion with other players. Hence, if you are a Solitaire or Rummy fan, this should probably be in your library.
