There’s always room for one more multiplayer shooter on the market, especially if it brings a couple of new ideas to the table. However, the important thing is for the gameplay to be polished and enjoyable, regardless of how well the new concepts are integrated. Few things are worse than broken FPS mechanics, given the fact that you are supposed to move quickly and take advantage of your reflexes.
Line of Sight is a multiplayer first-person shooter that sports classic mechanics inspired by Call of Duty and Battlefield, while also adding a few interesting components into the mix to spice things up. You also have the option to customize your character and earn better weapons as you gain experience, which in turn allows you to access higher leagues and keep the experience challenging.
One of the interesting additions to the classic FPS formula are the psionic abilities, which allow your character to gain the upper hand on the battlefield. Granted, there are not many of them at the moment, but more are promised in later updates. Hence, at the moment one of the interesting abilities allows you to blink over short distances, which is obviously a great way to take the enemy by surprise.
Truth be told, the game feels very snappy and responsive, which is great news in an FPS. There are no weird control issues or interface problems either, so you can concentrate on killing the other players instead. The fact that you have to earn weapons in order to get stronger can be a bit of a bummer for some, but things are kept pretty balanced, and there are no pay-to-win complaints yet.
Lastly, the graphics are not bad at all, even if they are not on the same level with Call of Duty or Battlefield. The maps are fairly nice, on the other hand, although it must be mentioned that they feel a bit too small and cramped sometimes. Not much can be said about the sound effects, but you can concentrate on the action and not worry about whether the gunshots sound real or not.
In the end, Line of Sight is a decent FPS, even if it has its flaws when it comes to the free-to-play business model and the fact that you have to play quite a lot to get more weapons. However, the special abilities are quite nice, and the developers promise to refine things with further updates in the future.
