Every now and again the whole gaming industry focuses on a very specific niche of games and exploits it until there’s nothing left to create or enjoy. Zombie flicks got popular a few years ago and seemed like they were never going away, but then came the CCG invasion. Even Blizzard has a dog in this race with Hearthstone, but there are hundreds of games to choose at the moment.

KROSMAGA is a new CCG that adds a few elements to the mix, but nothing too original, so it feels old from the first minutes of gameplay. Hence, besides using cards to defeat your enemies, you must also control a few lines by placing units on them and using them to reach the special items belonging to your opponent. On the other hand, you must prevent the adversary from doing the same, so the whole thing is pretty exciting at first.

You get new cards by winning matches and completing missions, and they can be used to create custom decks to fit your needs. However, it’s also possible to use premade decks and just let the game decide for you which cards are come in handy. Speaking of which, there’s a helpful tutorial in the beginning to get you started, and it does a great job at teaching you everything you need to know.

Besides using cards, there’s also the matter of the battlefield itself, which is split into multiple lanes. Units move across these lanes after every turn and attack everything that’s in their path, with the ultimate goal being to get to the egg at the end. Once one of these eggs is destroyed, the game is over and the winning player reaps the rewards. However, it’s not easy to obtain a victory when both players do their best to protect themselves.

You can put your skills to the test in the multiplayer mode as well, but it’s worth noting that the matchmaking component is not very refined yet, so you might end up facing very experienced players from your first matches. There are some balancing issues when it comes to the cards, plus the usual luck factor that decides what cards you draw from the deck, but that’s a trademark of the genre.

In the end, KROSMAGA does not really have what it takes to impress hardcore CCG fans, especially since everything is pretty dumbed down in many regards. However, it can be very addictive and enjoyable if you are new to the genre.
