Better Off Tread

Realism is not always required in order to have tons of fun, especially when it comes to arcade games. Thus, sometimes players jwant to see a lot of explosions and just test their skills in a much more forgiving environment. Thankfully, there are more than enough options in the genre, and more are being released on a regular basis, sometimes even with some new ideas.

Better Off Tread is a top-down arcade shooter with a focus on multiplayer, in which you can control a variety of interesting tanks and use them to defeat the enemy team. Since you do not have to worry about complex ballistics and all the other elements found in a realistic shooter, you are free to just have fun while blasting enemy tanks and winning currency for better vehicles.

The top-down perspective comes in handy during the combat, because it would be difficult to keep track of up to eleven other tanks at the same time, especially since the maps are very small. Shooting is achieved with a simple click as well, but the projectiles are fairly slow, so you still need good aim to hit your targets, not to mention the fact that you have to predict where they will be after a few seconds.

As mentioned before, you can win currency after every round, which can be used to purchase better tanks. Although they are not necessarily more powerful, every vehicle has a unique look, and some can be pretty unusual to say the least. There’s also the matter of in-app purchases, because you can use real money to buy cosmetic items and make your tanks look apart.

Lastly, the graphics are nothing to write home about, but the style is well-chosen for this type of game. Hence, they don’t put a lot of stress on your system, even if you happen to own an older machine. The top-down perspective is very easy to get used to as well, and it’s very easy to move around quickly and shoot at the same time, albeit not very accurately at first.

Even if it’s not as complex as most multiplayer shooters out there, the simplicity is Better Off Tread’s best traits. Thus, it’s a great way to blow off some steam after a hard day, and you do not need hours of practice to get the hang of things.
