Game Pipe

Game Pipe is an application that facilitates the moving process of games from one library to another, and even from different LAN locations, on Steam.

Steam might look and feel like a complete application, but the truth us that it’s still missing quite a lot of features. One of those features is some sort of interface or function that would allow users to move a game from one library to another.

You would think that it’s evident that such feature is already available by default in Steam, especially since the digital distribution platform also supports multiple installation folders. Maybe it’s being planned for a future update, but until then users have to do everything manually and, most of the time, with the help of tutorials.

Game Pipe does away with all of these issues in a very straightforward manner. The interface of the application is simple and uses drag and drop for the detected Steam folders in the system

Another cool option is the ability to copy content in LAN networks, without the need of setting up sharing between Windows computers, which can be a hassle sometimes. All you have to do is to add the IP and the port of the computer you want to move the files from, and you’re golden.

Of course, the user on the other side must enable an option that’s called hosting, and that’s practically broadcasting the availability in LAN settings.

One of the issues with the copying process in LAN is that you can also get some viruses if the content from the other user is already infected. Also, just because you can copy the content doesn’t mean that you can also play it if you don’t have the game already bought.

Users should also keep in mind that the application is not deemed stable, for now at least. It’s open source, and its developer is trying to get it through Steam Greenlight, but he still has some work left to do.

Game Pipe provides some features that should be available by default in Steam, but if this application catches in we might see its idea adopted by Valve.
