Top-down shooters have the unique property of becoming addictive, mainly due to the fact that they always features a very engaging and intense gameplay, as well as many weapons, enemies and different environments. As such, Alien Shooter was one of the most well-received games in the genre, thanks to its iconic battles against hundreds of monsters on the screen at the same time.
Zombie Shooter has been developed by the same studio responsible for Alien Shooter and it basically features the exact same gameplay, although the aliens have been replaced by the undead and there are no futuristic weapons to use against them. Although the game world might be a bit familiar, the setting is entirely new as well and you get to explore a variety of indoors and outdoors locations.
As far as the backstory is concerned, all you need to know is that zombies took over the world, which should be incentive enough to go on a rampage and start clearing the world of the living dead. However, there are many ingenious missions spread across the campaign, all of which have you following a different objective and meeting a lot of curious characters along the way.
Just like in the previous episode, the creatures you kill happen to leave a lot of blood behind, which means that the landscapes turn red in a manner of seconds, especially if you happen to use a more creative gun to deal with the zombies. Thus, after just a few seconds of gameplay and a few waves of enemies, the surrounding area is filled with blood, gore and small bits of undead meat.
To render these tasty details, the game employs a very good-looking engine, one that is capable of maintaining a high level of detail even from an isometric point of view. Thus, although the character animations are rather repetitive and robotic, the environments are incredibly detailed and they really contribute to the overall atmosphere, especially in the case of outdoor levels.
In the end, Zombie Shooter contains a pretty lengthy campaign, as well as two other gameplay modes for you to try out: Gun Stand and Survive. As you might recall from the Alien Shooter series, the Survive mode is by far the most difficult, since you must resist for as long as you can under a constant stream of zombies, which only gets worse as you manage to survive longer.
