Puzzle games are designed to teach you a thing or two while you are having fun, which is why they can captivate players for hours on end without feeling like a waste of time after that. In essence, it doesn’t really matter what the end goal is as long as the gameplay is fun and informative. Hence, even simple word games have the potential to keep you busy for a long time.

WordOMatic is a casual puzzle game in which your purpose is to form words using the available letters, by moving them around the board. Each letter has a certain number of points associated with it, and you can score nice combos if you use them in the right combination. They also lose points the more they are left unattended, so you should try to include as many of them as possible.

Unlike most games in this category, this one allows you to find the same word multiple times, as long as the letters are there. In essence, it is all about the score at the end, because things get a lot more difficult as you manage to move on from level. The letters get scarcer and trickier to include into words, not to mention the fact that blank blocks make an appearance on the board as well, just to mess with you.

The sad thing is that the gameplay doesn’t really change along the way, so you are pretty much stuck doing the same thing over and over again. On the other hand, it is possible to aim for the high score with each new round, so at least you have a reason to keep playing. The highest scores you achieve are recorded in the hall of fame, which means that you can even compete with your friends.

As far as the technical side is concerned, the game is obviously very small and very basic, but it shouldn’t matter too much under the circumstances. The graphics quality is quite poor as well, but since there are only a couple of letters on the screen at any given time, it’s not much of a bother. You can at least entertain yourself with music in the meantime, at least if you disable the repetitive sound effects.

While this is certainly not the most complex puzzle game out there, WordOMatic is still more than capable to keep you busy for a few hours. It also helps you expand your vocabulary at the same time, which is definitely a plus.
