Western FPS
Defeat menacing enemies using a variety of old-school weapons in this retro first-person shooter #First-person shooter #Retro FPS #Action game #Action #Shooter #FPS
Shooters used to be a lot more simple back in the day, especially in terms of story and the characters. Hence, iconic characters like Gordon Freeman from the Half-Life series did not even have a voice, let alone miles of dialog lines and multiple love interests. Granted, modern shooters are a lot more realistic and engaging, and the stuffy plots work wonders for the atmosphere.
Western FPS is a retro shooter in which your only task is to kill everything that moves, as well as complete a few simple missions and talk to some people in order to understand what the whole story is about. On the other hand, that’s not mandatory, since you can go through the whole game without worrying about other characters or the point of the story.
You begin with a simple knife, which forces you to get close to the enemies in order to put them down, but a pistol soon becomes available. Naturally, ammunition is required in order to keep shooting, so there are drawbacks to using a firearm as well. You can collect more bullets throughout the levels, but for some reason you can only hold a very limited amount of them, even if you can carry multiple weapons.
Everything about the game is designed to be as retro as possible, including the graphics and the gameplay mechanics. It can be a bit of a bother to learn how to move properly, especially since the animations are very choppy, but it doesn’t take long to get used to everything. It can be difficult to shoot your target sometimes, given the imprecise aiming system.
As for the graphics, they are certainly retro, but not in a modern way. In fact, the game runs at a tiny resolution, which is then stretched across the whole screen, thus achieving the “classic” look. Other games use high-resolution pixel artwork to achieve this effect, which is why they look much better, but this can work too if you are prepared to make some concessions.
Western FPS is a bit too retro to be enjoyable, given the fact that you have to make do with difficult controls and poor graphics, but it can still be a great way to treat your nostalgia. The levels are fairly difficult and full of interesting enemies.
