Tradewinds Odyssey
Travel through the seven seas and fight pirates while completing different quests and making profit by trading. #Casual game #Casual strategy #Mythology parody #Minotaur #Odyssey #Trade
Tradewinds Odyssey a game that sounds profound and serious but in reality it’s a very clever, whimsical, and humorous parody about what you know about Greek Mythology. It’s a casual strategy game in which the gameplay revolves around conversations and general trading.
In Tradewinds Odyssey, you get six playable characters with only four of them being available from the start. You can play as the Minotaur, Phil, Petrakles, and Phoebe, but expect their backgrounds to be slightly derailed from their mythological origins. Nonetheless, each one brings their distinct flavor and charm to the game.
As mentioned above, the gameplay relies heavily on conversations and general trade in the form of quests. You start from one city, talk to some people, sail to another ancient place, talk some more, get an item, and so on. What’s great about all of this is that you won’t find a moment of dullness while the characters chat it out.
The writing to this game is excellent, as far as expectations go for a casual game. Some of the jokes are very good, and if you know your Greek mythology, there are a few that will make you laugh more than you expect. I mean, one of the quests says “Sail to Athens and lay the smack down on Theseus.”
While Tradewinds Odyssey is tagged as a strategy game, there’s not much of that, not in the traditional sense anyway. Some decisions need a bit of strategizing, others not so much. In most parts, the difficulty comes from how you trade stuff and how you manage your finances.
If you’re looking for a genuine strategy game in Tradewinds Odyssey, you might not find it but if you want some laughs, those will surely be provided. This is the kind of game that first gets you by your funny bone and then captures your attention with a good deal of creative touches. It’s a casual game in the true sense.
Tradewinds Odyssey is a game you’d want for the conversations and the totally flawed manner in which they depict Greek mythology. There is some accuracy in the stories, though, just not the kind a historian would expect.
