The Return of Monte Cristo is a hidden object game from a while back in which you have to help the Count of Monte Cristo find out who murdered Mercedes.

The Return of Monte Cristo is a bit different from most hidden object games you find today. It features the story of Edmond Dantes and his journey to finding out who killed Mercedes by investigating the crime scene and all the leads by himself.

There is no voice acting, and very few cutscenes animate the atmosphere. In this one, you mostly look at the provided scenes and try your best to identify all the objects that the game tells you to. Don’t expect the scenes to make total sense but be prepared for some very well hidden objects. It’s one of the few games of this type in which you will use the ‘Hint’ button more than you expect.

While it’s nice to be challenged in finding all the objects, the game becomes slow-paced very fast. After a few minutes, if you’re not into the whole object finding bit, The Return of Monte Cristo might seem a bit tedious.

The Return of Monte Cristo was created a few years ago and since then, the default resolution of games has increased considerably. As such, in this game, the standard one is very low, and that means that few details are rendered as they should. At times, you will struggle a bit to make sense of what’s in front of you. Not a lot, but just enough for it to be a bit annoying.

Playing the game in window mode is a solution. Things become a bit clearer to see, but you need to focus a whole lot more.

To end, The Return of Monte Cristo is a good hidden object game but, unfortunately, the visual quality tends to ruin the experience.
