Casual strategy games are a good way to relax from time to time, since they do not overwhelm you with too much decision making, nor do they require intricate tactics in order to be able to win. However, some minimal tactics are necessary, which is why you are not exactly wasting time by giving such games a shot.

Space War Commander is a simple real-time strategy game in which you have to build spaceships and try to destroy your enemies as quickly as possible, while also gathering resources from mineral-rich asteroids. There are no huge fleets to talk about, nor intense dogfights in the void of space, but the thrill of winning a war should satisfy your need for entertainment.

Story-wise, the game talks about a future in which humans are all but extinct and obsolete, since the aliens are much more advanced and powerful from a technological point of view. But, with the help of your leadership skills and the proper tactics, you can restore the balance in the galaxy and defeat the extraterrestrials that decided to wipe out humanity from the universe.

The gameplay itself evolves at a rather slow pace, although you do have the option to speed it up whenever you want and avoid having to wait for the ships to cross long distances of empty space. Gathering resources is done by harvesting nearby asteroids, which in turn provides you with money that can be used to purchase new ships and defeat the enemy fleet. The mission ends when the enemy bases are destroyed.

As previously mentioned, there are buttons you can use to speed up the passage of time. Beside the slower/faster option, it is also possible to jump a few seconds into the future, although that puts you at risk of not being able to see the outcome of an incoming battle. On the other hand, you do not have any control on the combat anyway, since all you can do is right-click on the target and wait.

In the end, Space War Commander suffers the most when it comes to variety, because there only a handful of ships to choose from, even if they are pretty specialized. The interface may be intuitive, but it is a bit too small to enjoy properly, especially since it can be difficult to click on the ships most of the time.
