PetWings

PetWings is an indie arcade-style shooter with a unique and somewhat strange look. What it is, simplified, is a Space Invaders-like game in which the protagonist is a fox of sorts that can shoot blue fireballs.

PetWings plays like Space Invaders, but the enemies feel like they were inspired from Pokemon. There’s one enemy in particular that looks a lot like Beedrill. Maybe they are Pokemon, and I’m just not seeing it. Either way, the game is a blend of the two.

As you start shooting the waves of critters, they start moving toward you but one at a time and in an aggressive manner. Apart from looking out to avoid smashing into the advancing enemies, you also have to make sure you don’t get hit by their attacks. Each enemy possesses a unique one, and when they all come together, things get a bit chaotic.

As far as game difficulty goes, PetWings is a well-balanced game. From a simple arcade shooter, it turns into a bullet hell, almost, and on rare occasions, but that part of gameplay is there.

Like in all arcade shooters, there are going to be final boss fights and the big enemies here are as unusual as everything else. Fortunately, these big fights aren’t as tough as you expect, if you’re careful, you won’t lose one life. Also, after you beat a boss, you get an upgrade for your firepower; loose all your lives and it resets.

To end, PetWings is a game that’s best suited for kids who don’t really care for video quality but just want to shoot bug like creatures with their flying fox hero.
