Hidden object games are not exactly lively, but that’s not their purpose anyway. Contrarily, people find them relaxing and tantalizing, because they get a chance to solve mysteries at their own pace, without the hassle of running around searching for clues and killing monsters. As such, the story is not very important either, given the fact that anything will do as long as the players can lay back and have a good time.
Mystery P.I. - Lost in Los Angeles is a combination of multiple genres, although it is primarily a hidden object game. As such, most of your time is spent looking for specific items, while trying to keep up with the plot running in the background as well. On the other hand, match three mini-games and a few other such interesting puzzles are part of the deal too, to spice up the atmosphere every now and again.
Story-wise, your role is to act as a private investigator and look into the disappearance of a movie reel, which is actually the only copy of a blockbuster that’s about to be released to the public. In order to avoid major financial losses and the disappointment of cinema fans, you have to find this reel in no more than seventeen hours and leave no rock unturned in the entire Los Angeles.
The hidden object sections are as straightforward as possible, which means that your purpose is to look around very detailed rooms and environments, while searching for the objects on the list. Although the task is rather simple in the beginning, things get a lot more difficult as you manage to advance and complete the stages. The items become harder and harder to spot, although there is a hint system in place to lend you a helping hand when you are stuck.
Just like in most other games of this type, the visual quality is quite decent, even if nothing moves and the environments are disappointingly static all the time. Thankfully, at least the objects are detailed, which means that you should not have any trouble recognizing a specific item. As always, the music is not terrible, but it gets repetitive and annoying after a while.
All things considered, Mystery P.I. - Lost in Los Angeles is nothing special, which means that you should figure it out immediately if you are a fan of the hidden object genre. However, the fun is guaranteed, and there are enough levels to provide you with a lengthy adventure.
