Carnivals enjoy their success because people are fascinated by the different, which is why genetic anomalies and animals with weird talents can gather huge crowds. However, the strangeness would make it even more difficult to spot something out of the ordinary if something unfortunate were to happen, which means that police investigations might run into problems.

Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate is a hidden object game part of the popular Mystery Case Files series, and it maintains the same formula as the rest of the titles. In essence, your main job is to scour the environments for a series of well-placed items, which lead the way to even more clues. The gimmick is not difficult to grasp, but it may take a while to spot all the things you are supposed to see in the pictures.

The story is not very complicated either, although it may excite the imagination of the younger audience. As such, it all starts with a fortune teller that predicts her own death, at which point she asks for you to help her. In order to do so, a series of items need to be gathered and combined to come up with a way to stop fate in its tracks and save the poor fortune teller.

Although the hidden object sequences are not difficult per se, they do require an awful lot of concentration, because the items are well-disguised with the background. Not only that, but they are also quite small in some cases, which increases the challenge even more. Thankfully, there are other puzzles as well, including Scrabble variations and many other mind-bending mini-games.

From a technical point of view, you shouldn’t be surprised to see that everything is static and hand-drawn, as it is customary for the genre. The graphics are pretty and clean, not to mention forgiving with your computer, almost regardless of what hardware you happen to run with. There might not be anything worthy of mention about the sound, but you can tell that the effort went somewhere else.

Even if Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate is more or less the same as the rest of the games in the series, it’s the new locations and the intriguing new plot that should attract the players. Not only that, but a challenge is always welcomed, especially if the brain is the one that must put in the work.
