My Worst Day WW2

Although it would probably take you more time to finish all the WW2-themed video games than the actual war lasted, game developers keep going to that well with bigger and bigger buckets, for some reason. Over the years, people have tried putting all sorts of twists on the idea, including zombies and demons from other dimensions playing the role of Nazi soldiers, but realism is the most sought-after selling point.

My Worst Day WW2 is not your regular FPS, although it pretty much looks and plays like one. What makes it different from other games in the category is the fact that it features an open map and not much of a story, except that it’s World War II and the Germans are the bad guys. In essence, your task is to blow a few things up and kill as many Nazis as possible, while sneaking around a cold Norwegian landscape.

Speaking of which, the action takes place on a frozen island somewhere in Norway, where the Axis forces have set up a camp. The game’s idea is that a real agent would not have too much information about enemy positioning, so you’ll have to guess and hope in most regards. It is also true that you are free to explore the map however you want, although it would be best to take care of certain things first, rather than having to deal with them toward the end.

Stealth is an important aspect of the gameplay too, because it’s always better to take the enemy by surprise. Unfortunately, the stealth mechanics are either entirely missing or very poorly implemented, because you rarely feel like you are doing anything more than just walking around. You cannot crouch, duck, or do anything else to hide your figure, so you’ll just have to use the terrain to your advantage. That is not always possible, which means that stealth is more of an occasional commodity.

Speaking of which, the level design is a bit disappointing as well, given the fact that you are supposed to be free to roam everywhere on the said island. In essence, the entire map is just one large chunk of land covered in trees, with a small hill here and there, plus a structure of sorts every now and again.The graphics engine is not particularly pretty either, but at least the ballistics are supposedly very realistic.

My Worst Day WW2 tries its best to be different and appeal to a certain type of gamer, but it fails to rise to standards in many regards. As such, neither the stealth aspect nor the action sequences are convincing, not to mention the fact that you must really strain yourself to have some fun.
