Mahjong: JoE or Mahjong: Journey of Enlightenment is a casual puzzle game that features classic Mahjong gameplay with some extra features.

There are thousands of Mahjong games floating around the Internet or residing on home and office computers, and although they all serve the same role, most of them feel unique. So is the case with Mahjong: JoE.

The first thing that stands out is the very good lighting that falls on the game pieces. Along with that, you get a 3D perspective that allows you to rotate the viewing angle to whatever you find appropriate. Although, since the best way to get a good look at the layout of the pieces is from a top-down view, that feature might not be all that practical; but it’s there, and it’s nice.

Like in all the rest, the goal in Mahjong: JoE is to find and match pairs of tiles until all of them disappear from the board. If no combinations are possible, the game automatically re-shuffles them.

Mahjong: JoE is said to offer over one thousand layouts that you can play. Even one hundred would have been enough. Moreover, this version of Mahjong provides several tile types to choose from, and many more can be unlocked as you play.

There are also two game modes, ‘Adventure’ and ‘Free-Play’. The latter enables you to play any layout that has been previously unlocked in Adventure mode, and you have more than enough to choose from.

To end, if you want to play some classic Mahjong that looks good, Mahjong: JoE is a solid choice. There is more than enough content to enjoy.
