Les Miserables: Jean Valjean

Les Miserables: Jean Valjean is a hidden object puzzle adventure game where players will take on the shoes of one of the most famous convicts in France.

Les Miserables is a French historical novel written by Victor Hugo, one of the best novels in literature history in fact, that follows the lives and struggles of several characters. Jean Valjean tries to steal a bread so he can eat and is caught and sentenced to five years in prison. Trying to escape, he is caught and ends up with 19 years of hard labor.

After serving his sentence, the man is left wondering the towns in search of a shelter and a job. He ends up in the house of Bishop Myriel and after a hot meal and a warm bed, Jean robs him and steals all his silverware. When caught and confronted, Monseigneur Myriel covers for him and Jean decides to change his ways and dedicate his life to kindness.

The gameplay follow, mainly, the classical hidden object gameplay. Traveling from one scene to the other is done by pressing the big footsteps icons and entering a hidden object scene is done by pressing the spyglass icon.

The impressive size of the game, around 750 Mb, doesn't justify one bit if you are a closer looks at the graphics. Cinematic scenes are replaced by a series of pictures showed with a dialogue line at the bottom. The sounds of the game are quite nice and the soundtrack will make it look like you're really in a French city in the 19th century.

Even if the visual don't impress and the gameplay can get a bit boring, following the life of the famous Jean Valjean is a treat. The novel of Victor Hugo is perfectly told by the game so fans of classic literature will appreciate it.
