The ocean is full of interesting creatures, some of which don’t even make sense. There are huge tentacled animals living in the dark, as well as immortal jellyfish that may be a few centuries old at this point. However, it’s the fish that people decimate on a regular basis, which means that we are pretty familiar with their behavior and general lifestyle.

Feeding Frenzy is a fun little game in which your only purpose is to play the role of a fish that needs to eat as much as possible, in order to grow and escape the threat of bigger predators. Over the course of the missions, your fish gets larger and larger, so that it can eat bigger fish as well. The goal is to survive every challenge and reach a respectable size by the end of the campaign.

Each mission has a couple of thresholds you must reach, because you always start by eating the smallest available fish. As you overcome the required thresholds, bigger prey becomes available, not to mention the fact that you are also taken off their menu. A few other things can be eaten while you are at it, including pearls and starfish. They may not help you grow, but they provide you with additional points.

Every now and again, certain bonuses can be picked up, including speed boosts that allow you to move a lot quicker. Not only that, but your fish has a few special abilities as well, such as the fact that you can dash forward for a second or two, or even suck every fish around you with a simple click. However, paralyzing jellyfish and exploding mines also make an appearance, so you need to pay attention to the environment at all times.

At the end of the level, both the time and the total amount of fish eaten are taken into consideration to calculate your final score. This score may not mean too much on its own, but it can certainly give you the proper incentive to retry some of the levels. In fact, there’s a dedicated Time Attack mode dedicated to that, although you need a bit of experience before you jump into it.

Even if the concept sounds silly on paper, Feeding Frenzy’s gameplay mechanics are strangely addictive and fun, which is why everyone can be entertained by the game. It also feels nice to get bigger and bigger with every level.
