Desktop Taipei features simple graphics that don’t make it unappealing but rather plain. The main window of the game is split into three main sections, the toolbar, the game area, and a lower information bar.

In this Mahjong game, you have to do the same thing you do in all solitaire versions of it. Meaningly, you have to match tiles of the same kind to make them vanish from the board. Once you eliminate all of them, you win the round, and you can move on to the next one.

Desktop Taipei enables you to change the background picture and color; you can swap between tilesets with different styles, as well as zoom in or out of the board.
