Carnival Cruise Lines Tycoon is no longer supported, so it is now impossible to purchase the application. Nonetheless, you can still download it from Softpedia and use it with the limitations listed on this page.
Although humans have settled down a few millennia ago and left the nomad life behind, there’s still a small part in every individual that urges him to just pick up and leave for a while. Since it’s no longer socially acceptable to take the way of the forest and live off the land, most people go on cruises instead, which are basically vacations spent on large ships filled with booze and slot machines.
Carnival Cruise Lines Tycoon is a classic sandbox simulator with a name that’s just as intriguing as it needs to be to attract a bit of attention from the fans of the genre. It also falsely advertises to provide the players with freedom of choice and quite the challenge, because the developers omitted to include the said elements in the actual game. Hence, while the idea might sound fun on paper, the actual experience is far from pleasant.
To begin with, the career mode is where you want to start, because the other modes assume you are familiar with the gameplay mechanics already. Here, you are greeted by a short tutorial to get you started, which is a nice touch. Your goal is to customize a cruise ship and prepare it for its maiden voyage, by placing guest rooms, restaurants, bathrooms, and all sorts of venues that can bring a profit.
Things get boring in a rush after the tutorial ends, however, because everything is the same regardless of what you choose to do. The goal is to get money, and that’s easily achievable by just placing more venues on the ship when you get enough customers. Bigger ships are unlocked periodically, but the process is the same, and there is virtually no way you can fail. This takes all the joy out of the experience, not to mention the fact that the actual ships cannot be customized at all.
After you have seen everything there is to see, which only takes an hour or two, the game gets stale and repetitive. When that happens, you get the chance to notice smaller things as well, which wouldn’t happen normally. Hence, you might pay extra attention to the visual quality and be disappointed by it, or realize that it doesn’t seem to matter whether the guest rooms have a door or not.
All things considered, you might want to save Carnival Cruise Lines Tycoon for a sunny day, so you’ll have the option to quit and go out instead. There are just too many flaws and annoyances working together in the game, not to mention the generally repetitive gameplay mechanics that suck the joy out of you.
