Zeus' Battlegrounds

The battle royale bandwagon is getting more and more entries, as many titles try as much as they can to capitalize on the latest craze that has come over the gaming market. Some games emerge featuring nothing but battle-royale modes with their own little twists, while already existing giants include it as a game mode for you to join with your characters. One game that is meant to focus solely on the battle royale aspect is Zeus' Battlegrounds, which is set in an ancient Greek arena.

You take on the role of a demi-god that wants nothing more than to prove himself worthy in front of Zeus, the king of the Gods so that he may claim his seat at Mount Olympus. You are violently deployed upon the battle arena as a meteor (this game's version of parachuting towards the game map), and must scavenge for weapons, eventually killing off all players you encounter until only one is left, hopefully, you.

Most battle royale titles focus on modern weaponry, such as guns, but Zeus' Battlegrounds features only elements you'd expect to find from a title set in ancient times, from tridents to bows. Guerilla tactics such as laying traps, sneaking around or waiting for two opponents to fights so that you can finish off the last one standing is common in this game. Your equipment plays a great role in the play style you'll adapt, as using a heavy two-handed weapon will feel much different than dual-wielding, using a bow or using a one-handed weapon and a shield.

There is no passive healing in this game, and if you want to recover whatever sliver of health you may have left, you'll need to find yourself some potions to drink. Battles are pretty quick as getting hit three or four times by an average weapon while being caught without armor will cause instant death.

Regardless of what your place was in a match when you die, you'll get the same reward as everyone else, with only the winner receiving any significant bonuses. As you advance in level and gather more currency, you'll be able to acquire extra customization features for your character, including skin tones, battle scars, tattoos, and weapon skins.

This game shows great promise and might end up gaining its fair share of the battle royale market, as the unique setting and approach makes it stand out among the other titles where you rush around guns blazing.
