Working with other players is a great way to extend a video game’s life, especially in the case of genres like survival or sandbox. Thus, there are many titles to choose from out there, each one of which provides you with a unique experience and a different set of gameplay mechanics. Even so, the niche is far from over-exploited, because there are still many ideas that can be explored by developers.

Voodoo is a third-person survival game with action elements, a crafting system and a fairly big world to explore, in which you are free to do as you choose. You can build shelters, hunt prehistoric animals, collaborate with other players or simply explore the map, although only some of these paths allow you to get better gear and evolve. Thus, there are many goodies waiting for you if you are willing to put in a bit of effort.

The crafting is designed to be fairly accessible, as well as flexible depending on your combat style. Hence, you can actually craft thousands of weapons using a variety of materials and methods, which means that you won’t ever get bored of experimenting. You can also customize your character’s approach to conflict, because stealth or diplomacy are also options every now and again.

One of the things you might notice when you first start playing is the fact that the maps appear to be rather bleak and empty, which is not good news. It takes a while to find anything, regardless of whether it’s an animal, another player, or even a tree of some sort. It’s also very difficult to find the materials needed for crafting, given the fact that they too are quite rare.

The interface is not bad, but there are some issues that need to be resolved by the time the game leaves early access. As an example, picking up things is very buggy, because it only works if you are at a certain distance from the item in question. The graphics are pretty decent as well, but as mentioned before, the environments are not particularly detailed at this point.

Although the underlying idea is very good, Voodoo is still very rough around the edges at this point, which means that it needs a lot more work before the concept is perfected. However, you should definitely keep an eye on the project and follow its progress, because it just might be a special one.
