Fighting is a very old human habit, and it hasn’t gone away yet, regardless of how frowned up it is today. In fact, the practice has evolved a great deal over the centuries, since you only need to take a look at today’s warfare tactics to see how far people have come in terms of hurting each other. On the other hand, hand-to-hand combat has improved as well, mainly thanks to the popularity of various martial arts.

Street Warriors Online is an interesting fighting game in which you get to team up with other players and participate in brawls that usually end with most of the people unconscious on the floor/ground. The most engaging thing about the game is the fighting itself, but don’t expect complex gameplay mechanics, because all you have to do is click your mouse buttons in a specific order.

You start by creating a character, and there are multiple classes to choose from, depending on whether you want to move quicker, hit harder, or a combination of the two. After that, you can also use a variety of sliders to change the appearance of your alter-ego, which is a great way to make the game feel less repetitive. A tutorial is in place to get you started with the mechanics, and you can jump into a battle right away after you learn how to fight.

Unfortunately, there are not enough servers most of the time, which is a huge bummer, considering the fact that this is a multiplayer-only game. Some of the matches have AI stand-ins to make up for the lack of players, but this is obviously not as exciting as dealing with actual people. The combos you have to achieve are fairly neat, on the other hand, even if all you have to do is click as quickly as possible and hope that you land a punch before your opponent manages to do the same.

You can easily switch between combos, but it’s not much of a challenge to achieve them, which takes most of the fun out of the equation. Some of the arenas also have various items/weapons you can pick up for extra damage, and the overall brawls can actually feel very engaging in the right conditions. The graphics are very nice as well, even if there’s a lot of clipping and quite a few collision problems.

When it’s all said and done, Street Warriors Online is a pretty nice fighting game, and it does have the required elements to be fun over long periods of time. However, it lacks the player base for some reason, and it also needs a few more ideas in the gameplay department, because mindless clicking is not a great way to inspire the energy of a real brawl.
