Pirates: Treasure Hunters

MOBAs are part of almost every gamer’s life nowadays, given the fact that there so many possible options to choose from, including games like Dota 2, League of Legends or Overwatch. Regardless of your choice, on the other hand, the underlying concept is pretty much the same every time: teamwork and an arena that facilitates confrontation between two teams.

Pirates: Treasure Hunters is not your typical MOBA, even if there are many elements borrowed from other games in the genre. However, those elements feel different for some reason, maybe because the gameplay is very fast-paced and in a different key than most MOBAs. If the name isn’t clear enough, the game is all about pirates and treasure, as well as the battles that ensue when too many people are aiming for the same loot.

Each match starts with the players choosing a hunter, and every hunter features other skills and abilities. The teams are formed of six players each, and the tactical possibilities are quite interesting if you truly want to work together with your teammates. Vehicles are part of the deal as well, which adds even more excitement to the matches and a new way to take the enemy by surprise.

Since this is still a MOBA at the end of the day, your champion is the most important component, which means that you can customize him in a variety of ways and learn how to take better advantage of his abilities. The collection of hunters should be satisfactory at the moment, even if most of them have to be unlocked in order to be used in battle. On top of that, each hero has three different attack modes, a handful of special abilities and a few stats that can be improved every time you level up during a battle.

Speaking of which, the gameplay is very fast-paced and demanding, which means that you can’t just sit with the mouse in your hand and farm gold like in other games. Instead, you have to walk on the WASD keys and quickly switch between different firing modes and special abilities. You can also drive vehicles or be the one operating the cannon on them, so there’s always something to do and never a dull moment.

In the end, Pirates: Treasure Hunters has a few problems as well, such as the fact that the camera is a bit too stiff and slow for such a fast-paced game, so it might need some work in the future. However, everything else should be engaging enough to keep you busy for a long time.
