Perfect World International

Whenever you think of Asian MMORPGs, a lot of things probably pop into your head, such as cool character designs but with limited customizability, great armors and weapons, elaborate special effects when talking about skills and magic, and grindy gameplay. However, some MMOs deviate from this pattern and evolve over the course of time, managing to stay interesting for the playerbase for years and years. That would be the case with Perfect World International, probably the most well-known Asian MMORPG out there.

Like all standard Asian MMORPGs, the races are made up of the token beautiful-looking ones as well as one or two monstrous races that will usually play as melee brawlers. The game also is a breath of fresh air as far as races are concerned since it doesn't limit itself to the classic races you see in all RPGs such as human and elves. The recipe is a classic one indeed, but it is efficient nonetheless, as it manage to keep players within the game for several years now.

The story of PWI evolved with each expansion and addition of races and classes, but they all usually involve you getting a party, getting stronger and eventually destroying that expansion's baddie. Speaking of which, classes are diverse, but they are usually race-bound, so the game's potential to role-play is a bit limited. Regardless, the classes include both familiar ones like the wizards or the archers, as well as more PWI-specific, such as the Venomancers.

While the game may have aged, you cannot deny that it stays entertaining, and the constant flow of updates and new content makes it seem like it will stay with us for a long time from now on.
