Foxhole
Fight in a persistent war in this top-down shooter featuring large maps and an emphasis on teamwork #Massively multiplayer #Online tactics #Action game #Action #Tactic #War
It would appear that war is one of our species’ favorite activity ever since there were enough people in the world to form two opposing sides. The ancient people did it, medieval civilizations perfected it, and the modern society brought war to a whole new level, as if that’s what we were working our way toward. Thankfully, at least we have the capacity to simulate wars in video game form, which makes a lot fewer victims.
Foxhole is a multiplayer game with a top-down view and a tactical approach when it comes to shooting mechanics, in which you have to work with other people in order to overpower the enemy faction and win the war. However, this war is a bit larger and more complex than it usually is in online shooters, because the game world is persistent, and so are your actions.
What this means is that you can change the environment and fight week-long battles in order to occupy more territory and enjoy your victories. It’s also possible to craft objects and gather resources to help with the war effort, as well as build things to change the layout of the maps. Don’t expect anything too crazy, but it feels pretty nice to be able to do even the simplest things that are not demolished ten minutes later when the round ends.
Since you play from a top-down perspective, the atmosphere might be a tad unrealistic, given the fact that all you see is a tiny soldier skipping around the battlefield. However, you can actually do things like crouch, sneak and take cover, which makes you feel more like in an actual shooter. The combat mechanics are a bit rough at the moment, but considering the fact that this is merely a prototype, it’s exciting to imagine how the final product might look and feel.
In fact, there are very few games like Foxhole available right now, mainly because players are looking for instant gratification and do not usually have the patience to conduct day-long operations. However, the game is bound to find an eager audience out there, especially if it provides the players with a refined set of gameplay mechanics and decent graphics to go along with them.
All things considered, it’s too early to give a definite answer on Foxhole, but all signs are pointing toward something exciting coming our way. Whether the developers manage to express their ideas in a creative and functional way remains to be seen, but it’s definitely achievable, at least if they keep improving the game and listen to the community.
