Tough platformers can be quite addictive if they are well-designed and they provide players with a real challenge. In fact, some of the most famous platformers out there can be quite impossible for most casual players, especially in the later stages. On the other hand, the goal is for the gameplay mechanics to be as simple as possible, at least in theory.

vridniX is an endless platformer in which your goal is to collect a couple of glowing orbs, while jumping and running at all times. Despite the fact that you do not have the option to stop the character from moving, you can reverse his direction with a simple press of a button. Using this and the jump command, you have to survive for as long as possible through all sorts of traps and enemies.

You can either use the keyboard to perform the two available options, or you can make use of the mouse, which might be easier to deal with for some. The game remains just as tricky regardless of what method you use, on the other hand. Speaking of which, it’s also worth noting that your character can also glide on ceilings if you manage to reach them.

The orbs you collect don’t just raise your score, they also rotate the whole level ninety degrees. Hence, you need to be prepared to deal with the new perspective once the rotation is complete, otherwise you might find yourself falling into spikes, or running straight into enemies. They are not very smart, but it only takes one touch to die and cause a level restart.

In fact, the levels are endless, in the sense that you can keep collecting orbs for as long as you can. The more you get, the higher your score, and you can compare it with players from all over the world. Lastly, the graphics are nothing too fancy, but they are clean enough not to strain your eyes, which is exactly what you want from a hardcore platformer.

In the end, vridniX can be a great distraction for when you need something to occupy your fingers with. Moreover, the fact that the levels never end is certainly a bonus, because you don’t have to worry about replayability.
