Yellow Block 2

Small and simple games are sometimes much more accessible to some people, since they do not require hours of dedication in order to get somewhere and they can simply be played in short bursts, whenever you get the time. Most of these games feature a rather brutal difficulty level, since it what makes them attractive and popular to all types of players.

Yellow Block 2 is one of these simple indie games that can be responsible for a lot of lost time on your part, since it manages to make the minutes disappear without a trace when you are playing it. Despite the very basic mechanics, lack of a proper storyline and ancient graphics, the game maintains its appeal and it is very difficult to put down after you start playing it.

The main idea is to avoid everything that happens to be red throughout the levels, including static blocks, birds and various other red obstacles. Your character is yellow and it is constantly running, which means that you cannot stop, turn around, or ponder at the situation, but rather think fast and react as quickly as you can whenever something red appears on the screen.

As it is customary, the levels get more and more complicated, which in turn forces you to be more careful and responsive to the environment. In case you happen to die, however, there are no second tries and no checkpoints, which means that you have to take it from the beginning each time you get killed. While this might be challenging and fun at first, it quickly becomes frustrating and repetitive after a few tries.

Visually, the game does not impress at all, but it doesn't try to do so either. Most of the characters are basically colored blocks with funny eyes and mouths, except for the birds and the more dangerous enemies that await for you further ahead. Speaking of which, there are also various power-ups that can picked up whenever you stumble into them, some of which make you invincible, or help you fly more.

In the end, Yellow Block 2 may not revolutionize the genre, but it is quite capable of occupying large portions of your day, at least until you get too frustrated and annoyed to continue playing. Even so, the game achieves its purpose and guarantees at least a few hours of fun.
