In order for something to be appealing to the general public, it must at least look like fun at a first glance, because people are always eager to give fun things a try. Video games are technically fun by nature, since that is their main purpose to begin with. However, there are cases where this isn’t true at all, for one reason or the other.
Xtreme Accuracy Shooting is definitely not as fun as the title might make it sound, because no matter how ‘xtreme’ it might say it is, this is not the type of game you play to get an adrenaline rush. In fact, this is not the type of game you play at all, because it seems to be dedicated to those who are actually passionate with the subject and should already be familiar with everything there is to know about the sport.
Hence, a beginner is going to be utterly stumped by the sheer amount of new information dropped on him. Technical terms fly left and right and the game expects you to know what to do with them. Granted, there are plenty of options you can customize and you can even choose things like the gunpowder type and the number of powder clicks, which is about as close to reality as possible.
The game also comes with hefty collection of available ranges and equipment you can buy and use during the tournaments. Speaking of which, you can even start a career mode and aim to be the best in the country, as long as you beat everyone else. A multiplayer mode is available as well, in case you manage to find someone else to play it together with.
Unfortunately, all the effort went into the ballistic model and various other simulation modules, which in turn left the graphics engine rather basic and unimpressive. The rifles might look almost decent, but the terrain and anything else that’s more than three feet away is almost indistinguishable, because of the very low-resolution textures. There is a bit of voice acting as well, although it’s nothing special and it’s only a few words.
All things considered, regardless of how well Xtreme Accuracy Shooting might have realized the gameplay and simulated the bench rest shooting, the number of interested players is not great at all. Moreover, the presentation is pretty poor as well, especially when it comes to interface and graphics quality.
