War may not be a laughing matter, but the Worms series are definitely putting that statement to the test year after year. Featuring crazy weapons, tricky environments and more than enough humor to go around, the lovable little worms have killed each other countless times over the course of the franchise, all in the name of fun.

Worms Forts Under Siege takes matters one step further and tackles some legendary myths from history, along with real civilizations and cultures from around the world. In essence, the “Forts” part in the title refers to the fact that the little creatures are now able to build and defend structures, such as fortresses and castles modeled after real places.

Whether it's the Egyptian temples and pyramids, or Camelot's and Arthur's imposing castles, they all come with different advantages and disadvantages, depending on which side of the walls you happen to be on. Hence, despite the fact that each team starts with some form of fort already built, you get to add more pieces as you play along, as long as the enemy does not destroy it altogether.

Since the series moved on to the 3D perspective, the mechanics might not be quite the same as they were in the original, classic titles, but the core idea has remained unchanged: kill the enemy worms in any way possible. To achieve this, the game puts over thirty weapons at your disposal, ranging from sensible bazookas and grenades, to the ludicrous exploding sheep, which is able to take out an entire castle wing with just one hit.

Speaking of the 3D perspective, the graphic engine has been slightly improved since the last installment, but there are no significant changes, which is a good thing, considering the fact that the game looks as good as it should. On the other hand, there are a lot of new textures and effects, while the freshly added forts have been closely modeled to be as detailed as possible.

Regardless of the tactics you employ during the matches, Worms Forts Under Siege remains as fun as ever, especially when you consider the fact that the fort mechanics greatly extend the gameplay. It is always a thrill to discover the effects of the new weapons that are available, as well as hear the hilarious dialogs the worms have with each other.
