Living in a three-dimensional world makes it difficult to imagine anything else, such as how it would be to live in a 2D or 5D world. However, worlds with fewer dimensions are easier to represent and understand, especially since we can draw them on paper. Higher dimensions are practically unimaginable, mainly because we do not have anything to compare them to.

Wondee is a 2D platformer that’s a tad different from the rest of the games in the genre, although it’s very easy to understand after a short tutorial. In short, you control a character than can only move on a straight line, although he has the ability to jump between multiple parallel lines. The goal is to collect dots and a variety of other power-ups, as well as to make it to the end of each level.

There is not much of a story to talk about, but each level has a pretty unique vibe about it that keeps you alert. As mentioned before, the goal is to eat dots as you go along, but the actual gameplay is more complicated than that. There are boxes that can stun you, noxious gas clouds that slow you down, as well as a variety of enemies that hurt little Wondee if they get too close.

Besides moving in a straight line, there is not much else you have to do, but you can skip ahead a short distance and basically teleport. This is useful when you have to bypass obstacles or enemies, but you really need good reflexes to make proper use of it. In general, it is much easier to just switch lanes and not have to deal with the obstacles, although that is not always an option.

As far as the graphics are concerned, the 2D style is perfect for what the game tries to represent. The special effects could use a bit of an upgrade, but they are quite nice at the moment as well. The screen shakes whenever something exciting happens, and the background changes color whenever you eat a power-up that grants you special abilities.

Even if Wondee may be a little too simple for some gamers, the game has the power to mesmerize players from the first few minutes. The levels are challenging enough to make the experience engaging and fun.
