Wira & Taksa Demo

Although it probably doesn’t seem so at first, it’s not easy to create a platformer and also make it enjoyable, because it takes quite a bit of work to polish the gameplay mechanics and come up with an original concept. It’s even difficult to copy the ideas from another game, because platformers depend a lot on controls, the pace of the action and the level design as a whole.

Wira & Taksa is a 2D platformer in which you get to play with gravity and help two friends overcome traps and enemies in order to reach the end of every level. Even if the concept is far from original, you can still have a lot of fun with the game, especially since the mechanics are very polished and the controls are always responsive and engaging. There are some new ideas as well.

As the title gives it away, there are two main characters, and you are switch between them at any point. Wira is the biggest and strongest of the two, which is why he also wields a giant hammer that allows him to bash enemies. On the other hand, Taksa is much more agile and faster than Wira, so you pick him whenever there are tricky jumps to perform or difficult traps to avoid.

The most important gameplay mechanic is the fact that you can switch gravity and walk on the ceiling of the levels whenever the floor is not safe enough. Obviously, sometimes you have to quickly switch between up and down a couple of times to make it across, so you need good reflexes and a lot of patience. Thankfully, there are many checkpoints that allow you to save your progress.

As far as the graphics are concerned, the 2D environments have been carefully designed not to be too repetitive, and the characters and their animations are very enjoyable as well. There are all sorts of special effects to make things more interesting, and even the enemies come in many varieties. Lastly, the soundtrack is pretty neat too, even if at this point it can get a tad too repetitive after a while.

All things considered, Wira & Taksa is more than capable to keep you busy for a while, and we can only hope that the full version is going to be just as fun as this demo. Hence, you can show your support by participating in the game’s Kickstarter campaign.
