Who We Are Now Demo

The end of the world is a common subject in video games, but post-apocalyptic scenarios are even more popular nowadays. Although the trend started a long time ago with games like the original Fallout and a few others, developers are still coming up with ideas on the subject. On the other hand, it’s pretty difficult to create a believable universe and populate it with interesting characters.

Who We Are Now is a simple visual novel in which you play as a homosexual character trying to find a bit of comfort back in a community called Home. The goal of the game is to watch the story unfold and make a few choices that decide the ending, but don’t expect too much interaction. The artwork is very colorful, although it’s a bit weird to see such lively colors in a post-apocalyptic world.

Speaking of which, the events take place ten years after a nuclear world that destroyed most of the world and killed most of the people. Your character is a young man named Wes who decides to go to a settlement called Home and try to figure out his life, although things never go quite as planned. On the other hand, he does find love there, and it’s up to you to choose a partner.

There are a few annoyances that make it difficult to get in the proper mood, such as the fact that everything looks so peaceful, clean and unaffected by the fact that a nuclear apocalypse took place just ten years before. All the characters feature classy clothes and fancy haircuts, so it appears that the only downside to such a world-changing event would be the fact that you have fewer people to interact with.

Speaking of which, the graphics are fairly nice, especially when it comes to the quality of the backgrounds and the character artwork. It’s still a major issue that there are no signs of the nuclear apocalypse, but then again you can focus on the story instead and don’t worry too much about the inconsistent environments. The music is fairly nice as well, although the soundtrack is fairly short in the demo.

Even if there are a few things wrong with it, Who We Are Now can still be a fun adventure if you are a visual novel fan. It features multiple routes you can pick, which helps a lot with replayability.
