On top of that, there are always stories about ghosts and spirits roaming around abandoned asylums, yet somehow people still go there to find out for themselves. When it comes to horror games, it’s also a good choice to place the action in such a setting.

Whispered Secrets: Everburning Candle Collector's Edition is a hidden object adventure game in which you play the role of a detective trying to investigate a mystery at a local asylum. The game is not very different from every other HOPA flick out there, especially not when it comes to gameplay mechanics, but at least you get to enjoy some new puzzles and a brand new mystery.

Speaking of which, it all starts with a fire at the local asylum, and it is your duty to investigate its origins. However, things get much creepier than that once you go inside, because it would appear that one or more spirits are having their way with the staff. Hence, you have to find a way to dispel these spirits, or even help them regain peace and continue their journey.

As far as the gameplay is concerned, your main activity involves looking around every scene and trying to pick up useful objects. Some of them are blocked or locked, so you’ll have to come back later, but the mechanics get old after a while. On the other hand, the puzzles can keep you entertained for the entire duration of the story, at least if you enjoy a casual mystery.

The graphics are the strong point of the game, since almost every scene is incredibly detailed and nicely drawn, especially when it comes to the environment and the objects that decorate it. Naturally, the cutscenes are pretty laughable, especially if you compare them to something from a triple-A production, but these were never meant to impress people anyway.

All things considered, Whispered Secrets: Everburning Candle Collector's Edition should be the perfect distraction for every HOPA fan, especially if you are familiar with the rest of the series at hand. There’s a bit of horror as well, just in case you are aching for a bit of a thrill.
