Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space Demo
A space exploration game in which you have to survive and witness the wonders of the galaxy #Weird Worlds #Infinite Space #Space exploration #Weird #Worlds #Space
Although space exploration is still a rather far away dream, it should not be that difficult to at least imagine it nowadays, given the fact that we can see and somewhat anticipate how the universe might look like in other solar systems, or even galaxies. Video games can satisfy that need until then, however, as well as provide you with a chance to become the first space adventurer.
Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space is an interesting concept game in which your primary objective is to explore locations around the map, although you are not forced to it in any particular order. In essence, you advance by jumping from star system to star system, while also collecting anything of value you find around them and running from dangerous encounters.
The story is not the strong point of the game and there is no real emphasis on it either, which means that you are free to create your own course and imagine whatever you wish while doing so. Before starting a new game, on the other hand, you do get to choose the size of the map, the mass of the nebulae and the enemy difficulty level, which should be more than enough to customize your experience.
The other part of the game concerns itself with your ability to stumble into new technology for your ship, whether it’s a more exotic propulsion system, or powerful new weapons to obliterate the enemies. Speaking of which, it takes a few hundred in-game days to travel from one star system to the other, which can quickly deplete your day quota if you do not find a new space drive technology quickly.
Visually, there’s not a lot to see nor complain about, considering the fact that the game is in 2D and it features a top-down point of view. The background images are very inspiring and atmospheric, on the other hand, as are the different ship designs and the aliens you get to meet along the way. Big props to the sound department, though, because the soundtrack is more than decent and the sound effects work wonders for the atmosphere.
Although the mechanics are sturdy and you can have a lot of fun in the first few matches, the randomly-generated maps can become repetitive quite quickly, given the fact that there isn’t too much content to begin with. Hence, the game fails to become a cult classic, although the potential is still there, waiting to be used.
