Gunner Demo

The invention of fighter planes changed the face of the war as well, because an entirely new front opened up all of a sudden. Hence, strategies that were once solid became unfeasible due to airstrikes and bombings, which means that armies had to adapt as well. A variety of new guns were invented as well, in order to deal with the new threat from the skies.

Gunner is not at all a complicated game, but it can certainly be rather annoying every once in a while. The difficulty curve is rather steep, since it requires fast reflexes and nerves of steel in order to stay alive and manage to shoot everything down in time. On the other hand, it’s not really such a good game to be worth the effort, especially since it gets repetitive in a rush.

In short, the game allows you to play the role of an anti-aircraft gunner, which means that your primary purpose is to take down every plane that passes above your head. The missions are all about protecting certain objectives, such as vital buildings or even submarines. On the other hand, you can easily overlook this aspect, because it doesn’t really matter what you’re protecting.

Gameplay-wise, there’s not much happening, other than the actual shooting. In fact, you can keep the finger on the trigger for as long as you want. There is no overheating to prevent you from doing so, while the accuracy remains the same. A faint force does interact with the bullets you fire, because they seem to follow a curved trajectory and you sometimes have to anticipate the position of the enemy aircraft in order to shoot them down.

From a technical point of view, the game does not impress at all. In fact, it looks about as simple as it possible, especially when it comes to the environments. While some levels sport some trees, or at least basic mountain shapes in the distances other are completely flat and you often feel like in an unfinished alpha build. However, as long as you are having fun, it doesn’t matter too much what decorates the environments.

In the end, Gunner probably won’t make anyone wish to give it a try from the screenshots alone, and the first five minutes should be enough for the players to figure out what they’re up against. Hence, only touch this if you are looking for something extremely lightweight and basic.
