Wario needs your help recovering his money from Kamek in this retro platformer based on level exploration #Wario Adventure #Retro Platformer #Arcade Platformer #Wario #Adventure #Arcade
Mario spawned a lot of related characters over the decades, including multiple versions of himself. Wario is one of the most popular of them and he is slightly on the evil side, considering the fact that he is practically the opposite of Mario in many regards. However, people liked him, and you can play as Wario in a variety of both official and unofficial games.
Wario Time is a fan-made game in which your primary purpose is to explore a variety of levels and survive the traps that wait for you along the way. In order to make it to the end, Wario can make use of his special abilities and outsmart the enemies, although you can also simply avoid most of them and not have to interact with the foes unless they are really blocking your way.
The story is thin and it doesn’t really matter in the big picture, but it’s nice to know that something is going on in the background. As such, it all starts when Wario’s wallet gets stolen and he needs to get it back. By following the culprit, he explores a variety of worlds and environments, as well as many types of enemies and even a few bosses that are much tougher to beat.
Just like in most Mario-inspired flicks, your final purpose is to reach the end of the level every time, which means that you must find the way there and make it alive. While most of the time you just have to keep going to the right, the exit portal is sometimes located upwards, which means that you have to climb instead of running straight forward.
The graphics and the art style are the disappointing parts of the game, because nothing looks like it should and it makes the entire experience feel a bit cheap. Although you tend to ignore it as the levels go by, the sketchy lines and the basic sprite animations have an impact on your final opinion regarding the game. On the other hand, it is at least commendable that the graphics appear to be hand-made, and thus original.
In the end, Wario Time is a pleasant indie production and you can find a lot of entertainment in it, as long as you are a retro platformer fan. There’s enough content to keep you busy for a short while, although you can easily replay the levels.
