War Front: Turning Point Multiplayer Demo

Regardless of how gruesome and violent World War II turned out to be, it could have also went a lot worse, if some of the theorized weapons were made possible, or if various prototypes were finished in time for the conflict. Thankfully, it didn't get to that, but that doesn't mean you do not get the chance to imagine it and witness an alternate reality in which all of those gruesome inventions became reality.

War Front: Turning Point is a real-time strategy game that gives you the opportunity to fight on either sides of the conflict, as well as take advantage of powerful weapons that can turn the tide of a battle on their own. Moreover, history has taken a different path this time around, with Hitler dying much sooner and various other changes that aim to present the second World War from a new perspective.

These slight changes actually have a deep impact on the overall story, although it still involves the very same factions when it comes to the armies that collide. However, in the game at hand you only get to play as either the United States, Germany or the Soviets, although the latter are not part of the campaign and they can only be used in skirmish modes. Despite that, each faction is unique and has its own array of interesting weapons or troops that can be vital in confrontations.

Short of spotting an orc or a NOD Tick Tank, War Front: Turning Point is as old-school as it can get when it comes to gameplay mechanics. Hence, you start off with a main building and a few worker units, which can be sent out to gather resources, or they can be used to erect new facilities and buildings. In order to train better and better troops, more advanced structures are required, as well as more resources and power to supply the increasing army.

A great deal of effort went into the graphics engine itself, since it is able to render very detailed environments and a variety of special effects to improve the overall atmosphere. Every unit is very closely modeled after real prototypes, while the buildings themselves feature a great deal of detail as well. Moreover, a day/night cycle works wonders for the atmosphere too, thanks to the superb illumination and the great explosions that light up the streets in the night.

War Front: Turning Point took a very safe road as it went along the development process, without too many risks and crazy new ideas. This is also the reason for which there are barely any intriguing or original mechanics to distinguish it from the rest of the pack, nor any revolutionary features to make the game stand out. Hence, while it may certainly be a decent title, it quickly fades into the fog, unless it somehow happens to be your first encounter with the RTS genre.
