Wanted: A Wild Western Adventure Demo

The western craze may have passed a long time ago, but that doesn’t mean people cannot enjoy a good Wild West-themed movie or video game, as it was the case with Red Dead Redemption and the Call of Juarez series. Shootouts are always fun to watch, especially if they involve duels and fast hands.

Wanted: A Wild Western Adventure may not be the kind of western you were expecting, given the fact that it’s a point-and-click adventure game. Solving puzzles instead of shooting bad guys with your six-shooter is not the ideal way to spend your time in the Wild West, but as long as the story is interesting and the riddles keep you busy, it cannot be that bad.

The story talks about a guy by the name of Fenimore Filimore, a cowboy who’s got a hero’s blood coursing through his veins, which is why the town he resides in looks up to him when something unpleasant comes along. A greedy rancher by the name of John Starek happens to be the problem this time around, since he plans to take over the entire town and drive everyone out of it by the time he is done.

As far as the gameplay is concerned, a great part is the game is spent exploring the town and finding a variety of objects, which can then be used to solve some of your problems. There are some slightly more interactive bits as well, which require you to take part in duels and try to come up with rhymes while partaking in drinking contests at the local saloon.

Lastly, the visuals are very smooth and cartoonish, which means that the environments are pretty wacky and colorful as well. This might make the experience feel a bit childish, but the humor is OK and there are plenty of grown-up things to enjoy too, although there is no blood and the violence is kept to a minimum. The voice acting is decent and the music is in tune with what you would expect, even if there are some glitches and inconsistencies regarding the sound effects.

All thing considered, Wanted: A Wild Western Adventure could have done a lot of things better, but the end result is pretty satisfying, as long as you don’t go in with high expectations. The puzzles are rather simple and you may sometimes feel a bit disoriented, but with enough patience you can certainly have a good time in the Wild West.
