Walking Heavy is a top-down shooter with stealth elements, in which you play the role of a hitman who is tasked with killing drug dealers in order to drive up the price of the drug and make some money out of it. The game uses a retro perspective and simple controls, but the atmosphere is very engaging, not to mention the fact that the difficulty level is through the roof sometimes.

Your character is a retired hitman called back into action for a special mission, but that doesn’t mean he lost his skills. The story revolves around HYPE, a new and powerful drug that has everyone in the UK overdosing left and right. However, your job is not to stop the spread of the drug, but to drive its price up by killing dealers and maybe getting rich in the process.

The top-down perspective makes it easy to move around the map, and you can get supplies from a variety of vendors spread around the city. Whether you need bullets or more powerful guns, it all depends on how much money you have available. The missions themselves are fairly straightforward, because most of the time you just have to find your targets and shoot them, although the shaky crosshair forces you to get as close as possible and take the shot from point-blank range.

The mechanics are actually challenging and rewarding, depending on whether you are OK with a bit of frustration every now and again. It’s very difficult to avoid the police if you make too much of a fuss, especially since your character can only run for a very short period of time. The retro graphics and the gloomy soundtrack help a lot with the overall atmosphere as well.

In the end, Walking Heavy is far from original, but it has the required elements to keep you engaged for a few hours. Thus, the high difficulty level and the challenging missions should be enough to attract a decent fan base.
