Walkie Tonky Demo
Control a giant robot and try to make it alive through the city, while avoiding the enemies trying to bring you down #Arcade platformer #Control robot #Physics platformer #Robot #Arcade #Platformer
One of humanity’s greatest fears according to Hollywood seems to be an invasion of some sort of giant creature, whether it’s the byproduct of nuclear waste, or robots that have developed a mind of their own. Naturally, you can experience the same thrill in video games as well, although you are usually one of the soldiers fighting against the threat.
Walkie Tonky has a more comical spin on the subject, and it actually challenges you to play the role of a tall robot spreading chaos around a metropolis. However, the adventure is even more amusing when you consider the fact that the game is actually a physics-based challenge, which means that your primary purpose is to carefully man the controls in order keep the robot walking and avoid the obstacles ahead.
There’s not much of a background story, but you can pretty much figure out the plot after you see the giant robot stepping on cars and throwing tanks around. As such, all you have to do is avoid being hit by rockets and make your way to the end of the levels, while optionally destroying everything in your path. It’s not complicated, but it’s fun and addictive.
Much like in the famous QWOP, you have to keep moving using a combination of buttons, although it is not nearly as frustrating as in the title mentioned above. You can use your mouse as well, in case you want to pick up objects and throw them around. It is also possible to kick things, an action that also requires a swift mouse movement, but which can be difficult to execute in the beginning.
The graphics are in two dimensions, but the artwork is rather nice and the silhouette-based design can really make the experience that much more interesting. There are a few bugs and problems plaguing the gameplay, on the other hand, because you often find yourself not being able to get past certain sections, even if you theoretically do what the game asks of you.
When it’s all said and done, Walkie Tonky may not be a work of art, but it can certainly capture your attention in the beginning. With a bit of polish and better level design, the game might even become a must-have for those who enjoyed physics-based mechanics.
