Guilty pleasures remind us how little control we have over our own mind sometimes, especially in terms of what makes us feel good. Listening to a particular song or being involved in some kind of unusual activity can attract a lot of unwanted attention from your peers, which is why people prefer to keep some of their hobbies or talents a secret.

WAGAMAMA HIGH SPEC is a story-driven visual novel that tells the tale of a young student by the name of Narumi Kouki, whose hobby involves writing mangas in the style of love comedies. He is not very keen on making his talents public, on the other hand, which is why only two girls know about this passion of his. Unfortunately, things get difficult to hide after some new developments change the course of the story.   The game itself can be considered a love comedy as well, since it features many elements similar to Narumi’s manga. Hence, the action precipitates when Narumi discovers the fact that the illustrator for his stories is actually the student council president, which complicates things. He also gets to interact with a handful of interesting girls along the way.

Naturally, these girls can get a lot closer to the main character if he says the right things, so there’s a bit of romance to occupy your time with along the way as well. Each girl has her own personality and interests, so it helps if you concentrate on those aspects and do your best not to upset them. Granted, you can always go back and try again, which why visual novels are so approachable.   Lastly, the artwork is very clean and detailed, especially when it comes to the character design and the nice backgrounds that decorate the screen at all times. Sometimes you get nice close-ups that show you the characters in detail, but even crowded scenes are quite enjoyable. The soundtrack plays its part too, in spite of the fact that it’s not particularly memorable.

Even if it doesn’t feature any groundbreaking mechanics or a revolutionary story, WAGAMAMA HIGH SPEC is still a pretty fun visual novel with gorgeous artwork. Hence, the cute characters and the engaging plot should keep you busy for a few hours.
